Search results
From this screen you can:
- Click on individual titles to see more information about the item, including the subject headings and item location
- Change your search or do a new search
- 'Browse a shelves'
- Limit/sort your search results
- Save records to send to an email address.
To change your search or do a new search, you can either:
- select a new search type and enter your new search words
- or go to a new search screen using one of the search buttons at top or bottom of your results list.
'Browsing the shelves'
You can 'browse the shelf' to see what else is near a title you are interested in. First do a search, then in Results List click on a title.
In the record display, click on the CALL # to see a list of titles at the same location.
Limit/sort results
Limit/sort searches again within your set of results. You can search for new keywords or a publisher, for items published in a range of years, of a particular type, in a particular language, format, or location in the Library, for government publications, or for items published in a particular Australian State or country.
To do a new keyword search or search for publisher within your set of results, choose your search option and enter your search words.
Click the Limit/sort items retrieved using above data button to start.
Limit by Year of publication.
To limit your results list by year you need to fill out both boxes, for example:
To limit your results to items published after 1998:
To limit your results to items published in 1997:
Click the Limit/sort items retrieved using above data button to start.
Limit by language
To find items not in English:
First do a search, then in Search Result click Limit/sort button. Select your language:
TIPS:
To search by Title, you can use either the foreign language title or the English language title, then Limit by language.
To search by Subject, use English language headings then Limit by language.
Click the Limit/sort items retrieved using above data button to start.
Limit by format
To find items in a particular format, for example videos:
First do a search, then in Search Result click Limit/sort button.
Select your format :

Limit by location
To find an item in a particular part of the Library, for example the Mitchell Library (ML) or State Reference Library (SRL):
First do a search, then in Search Result click Limit/sort button.
Select your location :

Limit by government publication
First do a search, then in Search Result click Limit/sort button.
Select your level of government
Click the Limit/sort items retrieved using above data button to start.
Limit by country or Australian state of publication.
First do a search, then in Search Result click Limit/sort button.
Select your country or state:
Click the Limit/sort items retrieved using above data button to start.
Sort results by year:
Click sort results by year radio button to list your results in date order.
Click the Limit/sort items retrieved using above data button to start.
Saving and emailing your results
You can save your results to your Library bag while you are searching to request multiple items or to send your results to an email address.
To save records to your Library bag you can:
- use the save all on page button
- Click the add to bag button
In the results view, the 'add to bag' button will change to the in bag button
You can remove a single items by clicking on the 'saved in bag' button.
To view your selection, use the 'view bag'
button
To remove items from your Library bag:
- Check the save box for item you wish to remove and click delete selected.
- To clear all your saved records at once, select 'the clear all'
To request multiple items:
- use the 'request multiple' items button

To email your saved records:
- click 'Email saved'
- the default format is Full Display but you can also select Pro-Cite or End-Note.
- Enter your email address in the mail to text box
- You can add items to send by clicking select all or by checking the save boxes of the items you want
- then select the Submit button to email your list
Pro-Cite and End-Note are bibliographic management software products used by researchers to manage their references. The Library does not provide technical support in using these products.
To search the catalogue through EndNote, you may download the State Library's connection file and save into your EndNote connection files folder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Connections) and choose State Library of NSW in Connection Manager.
Using this method, Author and Title searches are "starts with" searches. Enter the title from the beginning, left to right - "sydney morning" (not "morning herald"). Similarly, enter the Author surname first - "gaiman neil" or "gaiman" (not "neil gaiman").
